👋 Hello there!

My name is Matt Henderson. I’ve spent my career in product design & development, crypto & blockchain technology, and investing. This website has been the home of my writing since 2003. You can also find me on Twitter and LinkedIn.

My story…

I grew up in the southern United States and studied electrical engineering at Georgia Tech, spending time at both the Atlanta, Georgia and Metz, France campuses.

My wife and I started an engineering company in Germany called MakaluMedia GmbH in the late 1990s, working for the European Space Agency and other European aerospace organizations. We sold that company to SciSys GmbH in 2012.

From southern Spain, I started Makalu Interactive, a small agency that, between 2000 and 2019, designed and developed products for brands like Google, Virgin America, and Live Nation, as well as a handful of apps like RaceSplitter (acquired), ChessDrop, and Crypto Email Alerts.

We had some big successes at Makalu, including a game-based marketing campaign for Google that Ogilvy execs called, “A glimpse into the future of marketing”, an online service that signed up over a million users in its first year, and a mobile app that Apple featured on the App Store home page, and went viral in Brazil for unexpected reasons.

In 2020, I joined Aurora, the Ethereum EVM scaling solution from the NEAR Protocol, as Head of Product. There, my team created Rainbow Bridge, considered among the best crypto bridges in terms of UI/UX and responsible for transferring more than $2B in assets, along with Aurora+, one of the first web2 apps in the web3 space.

Investing from an early age was life-changing for me, and Money for Something was my attempt to publish a concise beginner’s guide that teaches everything you need to know and can be read in an hour. It’s been praised by people like David Heinemeier Hansson and Derek Sivers.

I’m a three-time European gold medalist in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a martial art in which I received my black belt in 2011. I also enjoy hiking, cycling, and most recently, rock climbing.

I value honesty, sincerity and simplicity, and hope to always remain curious and open-minded. I enjoy living off the beaten path, and exploring the diverse experiences and cultures the world has to offer. I move around quite a bit, sharing time between southern Spain, Andorra, Dubai, and the United States.
