Professional Manners

This morning I spent about 45 minutes sitting in the office of someone working in professional services (a “Gestoria” as it’s called here. It’s a business that handles the paperwork, accounting, etc. related to running a company.). Of those 45 minutes, I’d say more than half were spent listening to the lady attending to people phoning in with questions.

Isn’t that extremely rude? Had there been people physically waiting outside her office, I suspect she certainly wouldn’t have allowed anyone to walk in, and interrupt us. But, yet, for some reason, she would jump to answer the phone on the first ring, and attend to whatever the person on the other end of the line needed. Each time she’d hang up, she’d noticeably need a moment or two to regain her train of thought about what *we* were talking about.

  1. I feel the same way about calling waiting. I loathe it. “Excuse me please while I attend to someone who might be more important than you are. I’ll be back in a minute…maybe.”

Agree? Disagree? What do you think?
